Celebrity Speaker David Schwimmer is an actor, director, and producer who became an instantly recognizable star for his role as Ross Gellar in the chart-topping sitcom Friends. In 2015, it was announced that David would portray the late Robert Kardashian in the FX miniseries American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson. On top of being one of the world’s most distinguishable TV stars, David has had also enjoyed success in voice acting and directing.
Upon graduating college in 1988, David co-founded the Looking Theatre Company in Chicago which is still thriving today with an operating budget of over $3 million. After roles in TV dramas such as L.A. Law and NYPD Blue, David finally caught his big break in 1994 when he was cast as Ross Gellar in the NBC sitcom Friends. With an ensemble cast of celebrities Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt Leblanc, and Matthew Perry, Friends enjoyed a tremendous run over the span of 10 years until the show ultimately concluded in 2004. He also directed 10 episodes over this span. David received the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series and the TV Guide Award for Editor’s Choice.
Celebrity Speaker David Schwimmer kept himself busy with other projects during his work on Friends. In 1996, David landed his first starring role in a film The Pallbearer alongside Gwyenth Paltrow. He also appeared in the 2001 HBO miniseries Band of Brothers for which he won the Satellite Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries or a Motion Picture Made for Television. David also appeared in other films such as Kissing a Fool, Six Days Seven Nights, and Apt Pupil.
After the conclusion of Friends, David made TV appearances on hit comedies like Curb Your Enthusiasm in a cameo role and 30 Rock. He also became more involved in production, making his Off-Broadway directorial debut in the production Fault Lines. David is also well-recognized for his voice acting work as Melman the Giraffe in the Madagascar animated movie series.
Aside from David’s many talents, his philanthropic values and actions speak very highly of who he is as a person. David is an active board member for the Rape Treatment Center that specializes in supporting victims of date rape, child rape, and sexual assault. David has stated that he feels it is his duty as an influential celebrity to use his status in a positive way to help others.
