Reality TV Speaker Daniel “Dee” Snider’s mark on the entertainment world is one for the books, standing as one of the greats in heavy metal music. Dee Snider began his singing career at a young age, singing in choirs at both church and school, and also in a Black Sabbath cover band. In 1976, Dee Snider became a member of, and songwriter for, the metal band Twisted Sister. His trademark look became lengthy bleached hair and thick makeup, his interpretation of a “twisted sister.” The band’s third and most successful album, Stay Hungry, debuted in 1984 with the memorable tracks “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and “I Wanna Rock.” As the heavy metal genre gained popularity, Dee Snider hosted Heavy Metal Mania, the first MTV show that exclusively showed heavy metal videos, news, and interviews. In response to the popularity of increasingly explicit music, Dee Snider, amongst other artists, testified against a proposed Congressional explicit music warning system in 1985. On October 12, 1987, Dee Snider left Twisted Sister and went on to form Widowmaker in the early 90s.
Since the late 1990s, Dee Snider has branched out from the heavy metal scene to host a plethora of radio shows, including Dee Snider Radio. In recent years, Snider has made several appearances on television shows including Gone Country, MTV Cribs, Kitchen Nightmares, Growing Up Twisted, and Celebrity Wife Swap, in which his wife Suzette swapped places with Flavor Flav’s fiancée, Liz. Snider returned to primetime television once again as a contestant on season 5 of The Celebrity Apprentice. Dee Snider is available for speaking engagements, infomercials, and personal appearances.
