Olympic Speaker Dan Gable has an unbelievable prep and college record of 182-1 where he was undefeated in 64 prep matches, and 118-1 at Iowa State. At NCAA’s his senior year, he suffered his only defeat. Dan was a three time all-American and three-time Big Eight champion and set NCAA records in winning and pin streaks.
After a successful collegiate career, Dan Gable went on to have a successful freestyle wrestling career compiling a record of 67-4. He won the Pan American Games and World Championship in 1971, in 1972 he won Tbilisi Tournament. At the Midlands Open championships, he was crowned champion six times and was named the meet’s outstanding wrestler five times. Dan won a gold medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics without surrendering a point to any of his opponents. In his final 21 Olympic qualifications and Olympic matches, he scored 12 falls and outscored his nine other opponents with a 130-1 record.
After Dan Gable’s successful wrestling career, he went on to become the head wrestling coach at the University of Iowa where they won an NCAA title each year, nine in succession. His record in dual meets was 355-21-5 which also included 15 NCAA titles and 21 straight Big Ten titles.Gable has been named to several Halls of Fame including but not limited to the USA Wrestling Hall of Fame, the US Olympic Hall of Fame, the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Stillwater, OK and is the name sake of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum in Waterloo, IA. Dan is available for personal appearances, product launches and fundraisers.
