Olympic Speaker Carli Lloyd is a professional soccer player who has competed in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London where she won Gold for the US and her team by scoring the winning goals in the finals of both Olympics, defeating Brazil in 2008 and Japan in 2012. Lloyd is the first woman in history to make the winning goal in two separate gold medal matches at the Olympic Games. At the 2015 FIFA World Cup, she set a record with the fastest hat trick in World Cup history during the first 15 minutes of play in the USWNT’s Gold Medal match against Japan. Carli was the catalyst that led the USWNT to their first World Cup title since 1999.
New Jersey native Carli Lloyd trained under the famous coach Rudy “The Red Baron” Klobach in high school. She then attended Rutgers University from 2001-2004 where she played for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights earning titles of the Big East Rookie of the Year and the Big East Midfielder of the Year, as well as being named First-Team All-Big East all four years. Lloyd went on to play for several teams in her senior career including Central Jersey Splash, New Brunswick Power, South Jersey Banshees, New Jersey Wildcats, Chicago Red Stars, Sky Blue FC, Atlanta Beat, and Western New York Flash in 2013.
In 2005 Carli Lloyd made her National senior team debut in a game against Ukraine and scored her first goal in October of 2006 in a match against Chinese Taipei. Thus far in her professional soccer career playing for the United States women’s national team, Lloyd has started in more than one hundred and ninety games where she has scored over 50 goals. Olympic Speaker Carli Lloyd was named the U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year in 2008 and FIFA World Player of the Year Shortlist in 2012.
