Celebrity keynote speaker for hire Octavia Spencer is an award-winning actress best known for her roles in popular films such as The Help, Fruitvale Station and The Insurgent Series. In December of 2016, she starred alongside Taraji P. Henson and Janelle Monáe in the movie Hidden Figures which tells the empowering tale of 3 female African-American employees at NASA who were instrumental in the success of the United States’ first few missions to space. In January of 2017, she served as a featured keynote speaker during a moderated Q&A panel at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas which is widely considered the largest future of tech event in the world each year. Her bubbly personality and ever-growing celebrity clout has made her a highly-requested keynote speaker for corporate conferences, industry events, women’s conferences and college speaker series.
Octavia graduated from Auburn University and went on to find a job in the casting department for Joel Schumacher’s film A Time to Kill. Just like many of the feisty, determined characters she now portrays, Octavia took advantage of her situation and asked Schumacher if she could possibly audition for a small part. After landing the role as a nurse in Schumacher’s film, she had her heart set on becoming an actress. Octavia earned several more small roles in films including appearances in Never Been Kissed, Coach Carter and Seven Pounds in additional to TV shows such as Ugly Betty and 30 Rock. In April of 2009, Entertainment Weekly acknowledged her in its list of 25 Funniest Actresses in Hollywood.
Octavia’s breakthrough role came as maid Minny Jackson in the 2011 civil rights drama film The Help. As they say, the rest is history! She received a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress, a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The movie proved to be one that Octavia could somewhat relate to as her mother was a maid herself and raised seven children—Octavia being the sixth.
